Pointless

Zippy has been running pretty well on the stock ignition for over 1000 miles, but I’ve had a hard time finding good points. The ones I am able to get don’t want to sit flat on the advance plate and are hard to gap.

Points are old-school cool but I decided to order one of Gary Boone’s electronic ignition distributors. He modifies a later Nissan EI dizzy to work with the U20 and R16 engines.

First step was to turn the engine so that the indicator on the main pulley was at top dead center on the exhaust stroke of cylinder number one (closest to the radiator). Then I could remove the old distributor, wires, plugs and coil.

The stock setup.
